Danny McManus (1983-87)

FSU QB Danny McManus

Danny McManus is on this list because he was the quarterback in Tallahassee when the Florida State football program became known as an elite program.

In his career, McManus was 248-455-3,390 yards-25 TD-14 INT.

In the 1988 Fiesta Bowl, he led the Noles 97 yards and passed for the game winning touchdown on 4th & goal from the 15 yard line.

He was named Fiesta Bowl MVP as he broke Fiesta Bowl passing records in this game

 Peter Tom Willis (1985-89)

Peter Tom Willis wasn't an FSU Heisman winner but he was a winner for the Noles

Peter Tom Willis only started on season at FSU in 1989 and broke all the single season passing records of those that came before him.

In his career, Willis was 304-500-4,291 yards-33 TD-16 INT

 Thad Busby (1993-97)

QB Thad Busby wasn't an FSU Heisman winner but he was a very good signal caller.

Thad Busby led Florida State to a pair of 11-1 seasons. Both times the Noles finished #3 in the rankings. He was 10-2 vs. ranked teams in his two seasons starting.

Busby wasn’t one of the FSU Heisman winners but he was a 2nd team All-ACC in 1996. In 1997, he was 1st team All-ACC and the Atlantic Coast Conference Offensive Player-of-the-year.

He finished his career 420-715-5,916 yards-46 TD-27 INT.

Christian Ponder (2006-10)

Christian ponder was one of the top FSU QB's ever

When Christian Ponder was the FSU signal caller it gave the Noles a steady, playmaking quarterback. The first one since Chris Weinke left Tallahassee.

You can say Chris Rix but I sure as hell ain’t. The quarterback position was finally a strength again under Ponder’s leadership.

This got him drafted in the first round of the NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings.

596-965-6,872 yards-49 TD-30 INT/833 rushing yards-10 TD

 Gary Huff (1969-72)

Gary Huff was the first elite quarterback to play for Florida State. He was a first team All-South (independant) selection in both 1971 & 1972.

Huff led the nation in passing touchdowns in each of these seasons too. He was named as a national All-American selection by multiple publications in 1972, many of those were 1st team selections.

436-793-6,378 yards-52 TD-42 INT

E.J Manuel (2008-12)

E.J Mauel wasn't an FSU Heisman winner but he was one of the best QB's in school history

E.J Manuel was Jimbo Fisher’s first recruit while Bobby was still head coach. He was a 5-star recruit that some people might think is ranked to high.

He only started two seasons but won four bowl games due to injuries to starting quarterback Christian Ponder.

At the time, Manuel led FSU to only the third 12 win season in program history in 2012 and the first since the dominance in the 1990’s.

That season he also threw for the 2nd most single season yards of any QB in school history. Only FSU Heisman winner, Chris Weinke had more at the time.

Manuel was 25-6 as a starter, won the first BCS Bowl game since 2000, won 5-6 vs Miami & Florida, and is responsible for the first two victories that started the 29 game win streak that wouldn’t end until the end of the 2014 season.

He was 12-2 as a Senior and those two victories were the ACC Championship game and the Orange Bowl. The Seminoles first ACC championship since 2003.

600-897-7,741 yards-47 TD-28 INT/827 rushing yards-11 TD

Casey Weldon (1987-91)

Casey Weldon wasn't an FSU Heisman winner but he was the runner up for the award in 1991.

Casey Weldon isn’t one of the FSU Heisman winners but he’s the closest one not to win the award. He finished as the Heisman runner-up to Michigan’s Desmond Howard in 1991.

That season he did win the Unitas award as best QB in the nation and led a highly touted Noles team to a 10-2 record and a bowl win.

He was named First Team All-South (independent) and 2nd Team AP All-American in 1991 too.

323-545-4,628 yards-42 TD-15 INT

 Danny Kanell (1992-95)

Danny Kanell isn't one the FSU Heisman winners but he's still one of the best in program history.

Danny Kanell was a First Team All-ACC selection in 1994 & 1995 as well as the 1995 ACC Player-of-the-Year and ACC Offensive Player-of-the-Year.

He started a game for the 1993 National Champions when Charlie Ward was held out because of injury. In his first career start against Maryland he was 28-38-341 yards-5 TD-0 INT.

He led FSU to 10-1-1 & 10-2 records in 1994 & 1995 respectively. Finishing 4th in the AP both seasons.

529-851-6,372 yards-57 TD-26 INT

 Charlie Ward (1989-93)

Charlie Ward was the first of the FSU Heisman winners and national championship quarterbacks

Charlie Ward was the first of the FSU Heisman winners and National Championship quarterbacks.

He has the fourth highest margin of victory in Heisman balloting all-time. He was selected to the First Team All-ACC in 1992 & 1993 and named ACC Player-of-the-Year in both of those seasons too.

1993 ACC Offensive Player-of-the-Year. Charlie was a 3rd Team AP All-American in 1992 and a 1st Team AP UNANIMOUS selection in 1993.

1993 Heisman Trophy
         1993 Maxwell Award
         1993 Walter Camp Award
         1993 Davey O'Brien Award
         1993 Johnny Unitas Award

In the championship season of 1993, Ward’s Heisman campaign, he passed for 3,032 yards-27 TD-4 INT.

473-759-5,747 yards-49 TD-22 INT/889 rushing yards-10 TD

 Chris Weinke (1997-00)

Chris Weinke was the FSU Heisman winner and National Championship QB.

Chris Weinke was the 2nd FSU Heisman winner and National Championship quarterback in Tallahassee.

Weinke was the championship in 1999 and the Heisman in 2000. He was a 2nd team All-ACC selection in 1999 and a First Team selection in 2000.

A 2000 AP First Team All-American, Weinke holds program records for career completions, passing yards and touchdowns.

Weinke also holds the single season record for passing yards and touchdown passes.

The two top passing games and 3-the-top 4 belong to Chris too. Twice an FSU player passed over 500 yards and both times it was done by Chris Weinke.

Four of the top 10 FSU single game passing highs are Chris Weinke from the 2000 season. He is also tied with Peter Tom Willis for most touchdowns in a game with 6.

650-1,107-9,839 passing yards-79 TD-32 INT

 Jameis Winston (2012-2014)

Jameis Winston is an FSU Heisman winner and National Championship Quarterback

Jameis Winston is the third FSU Heisman winner and National Championship winning quarterback.

He is ranked above Charlie Ward and Chris Weinke because they both took over a championship caliber team expected to contend for a national championship.

I understand that they had to actually go out and win it but so did Jameis and he made his team what those 1990’s teams already were before the other two Heisman winners got there opportunity behind center.

In 2013 FSU wasn’t supposed to win a national championship and certainly not break records annihilating teams along the way.

Teams like Clemson in South Carolina with both teams ranked in the top 5. Jameis said “WE GONNA DO IT BIG”. The result of DOING IT BIG was 55-14.

Winston played 27 games for Florida State and he won his first 26. He is the youngest Heisman Trophy winner ever at 19 years and 342 days.

A 1st Team All-ACC selection in both 2013 & 2014. He’s 3rd in career passing yards in only two seasons and has the 2nd & 3rd passing yards in a single season.

He is 2nd in career touchdown passes and holds the record for a single season with 40 touchdowns in 2013.

I had no doubt that Jameis Winston was going to lead Florida State down the field and win the National Championship in the final minute of the game. He did it with great poise and patience like it wasn’t his 20th birthday and he had all the experience anyone had ever had as he hit Kelvin Benjamin in the endzone with 13 seconds remaining in the National Championship game.

2013: 257-384-66.9%-4,057 yards-40 TD-10 INT
