 P.J Williams (2012-14)

FSU cornerback, P.J Williams

P.J Williams. the FSU cornerback was the Defensive MVP of the 2014 Rose Bowl. He came up big for the Noles as they won their third National Championship.

In 2014, Williams was a 1st team All-ACC selection.

An undervalued player who came to Tallahassee during the Seminole resurgence under Jimbo Fisher, a big corner, Williams is still doing his thing on Sundays. Under the radar.

 Antonio Cromartie (2003-05)

Antonio Cromartie plays his opponent tight pre-snap

Some people might argue that Antonio Cromartie shouldn’t be on this list of FSU greatest cornerbacks.

The 6’2 corner is here because he was a 1st team All-ACC selection as a sophmore and was a preseason 1st team All-American before tearing his ACL prior to the 2005 season.

What he did on the field in 2 seasons was good enough for Cromartie to be a 1st round pick in the NFL Draft. That’s because of the high level of play he exhibited in the Garnet and Gold. That’s why he’s here.

The 2005 Noles were really special on defense. They don’t get the praise they should because the offense was inefficient. If Cromartie didn’t tear his ACL, who knows how good they could have been.

 Xavier Rhodes (2009-2012)

Xavier Rhodes draft profile

Xavier Rhodes was the 2010 ACC ROY and a Consensus All-Freshman selection.

Rhodes was a 1st team All-ACC in 2012, the FSU cornerback was a dangerous playmaker, and a projected 1st round NFL draft pick.

More importantly he was one of the key players that helped bring Florida State back from the precipice of mediocrity.

Rhodes last game was the 2012 Orange Bowl. The Noles first BCS Bowl victory since the 2000 Sugar Bowl. Setting up the ascent that was 2013. UNCONQUERED.

 Samari Rolle (1994-97)

Samari Rolle, FSU cornerback

Samari Rolle strolled into Doak to blanket the ACC’s best receivers and thats what he did. The best FSU cornerback in the mid-90’s, Rolle never won a title but played a huge role on a couple teams that came real close.

He had 111 tackles and 12 interceptions for the Noles during his time at school. He was 1st team All-ACC in 1997 and went on to have a long career in the NFL.

 Clifton Abraham (1990-94)

Clifton Abraham was half of the elite duo that shadowed receivers in the early-90’s for the Seminoles.

Abraham was a 1st team All-ACC in both 1993 & 1994.

In 1994 he was a Consensus All-American.

 LeRoy Butler (1986-89)

LeRoy Butler is somewhat affected negatively by my doing when I chose to seperate safeties and corners.

Butler was a great FS on the 1987-88 teams but had his finest season in 1989 at cornerback. Where he was named as a Consensus All-American.

He finished his career in Tallahassee with 9 interceptions, 194 tackles, and 3 forced fumbles.

Butler was one of the greatest Seminoles to ever roam the secondary.

 Lemarcus Joyner (2010-13)

Fsu cornerback Lemarcus Joyner

Lemarcus Joyner is the answer to the question, What player personifies Jimbo Fisher’s success at Florida State.

Joyner was Fisher’s highest recruit in his first class of 2010. He was honored as a 2nd team All-ACC selection in 2011.

In 2012 & 2013 he was named to the ACC’s 1st team. A leader on the 2013 championship team that dominated the country, the FSU cornerback’s impact was severely missed in 2014.

Joyner was an NCAA unanimous 1st team All-American in 2013. In his career, this FSU cornerback picked off 8 passes, had 197 tackles, 3 forced fumbles, and 6.5 sacks.

 Corey Sawyer (1990-93)

The Noles cornerback Corey Sawyer at practice

Corey Sawyer was the other half of the tandem that made throwing on the Noles in 1992 & 1993 a disaster.

A 1st Team All-ACC selection twice(92-93), Sawyer was a 2nd team AP All-American in 1992.

En route to a National Championship in 1993 he was named as a Consensus All-American

Saywer left school with 13 interceptions and 82 tackles.

 Jalen Ramsey (2013-15)

He was a 1st team All-ACC selection in 2014 & 2015. A 2nd team AP all-American in 2014 and a Consensus All=American in 2015.

Ramsey was one of the best talents to play cornerback at FSU, a school with some pretty good cornerbacks in its history.

 Terrell Buckley (1989-91)

Terrell Buckley would have been #1 on most schools lists. FSU cornerback Terrell Buckley looks to make a play on the ball

A 2nd team AP All-American in 1990, Buckley broke the NCAA all-time record for interception return yards while at Florida State. He still holds that record in 2020.

Buckley led the country in interceptions in 1991 with 12 and was awarded the Thorpe award for best DB. He also was a consensus All-American in 1991.

T-Buck left FSU with 21 interceptions, good for the school record. These picks led to 4 touchdowns.
